Share the love for International Women's Day!

Love Letters to Feminism was born out of an opportunity to create an exhibition for the Women's Studies Program Gallery at the University of Alberta in the autumn of 2009.

Over the past three years, Love Letters has grown and travelled, exhibiting at conferences and symposia across Canada, including in Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa, and is graced by contributions from men and women across Canada and around the world in letter, artwork, craft, and sound.

It'll be very exciting to share Love Letters with Edmonton and the local communities that have supported the success of this project thus far. The exhibit will be kicking off a celebration of International Women's Day on March 8th, 2012. More details to follow.

All contributions are welcome, no matter what the nature of your relationship with feminism is. Be part of the growing, expressive, inclusive dialogue!

We want to know what kind of relationship you have with feminism:

Are you in a long-term relationship?

Is it unrequited love?

A love triangle?

Do you have a crush on feminism?

Perhaps you are having a lovers’ quarrel?

Submissions to the exhibition should include:

An artwork/letter that has a maximum size of 8.5x11 inches.
Your name, mailing address, email address, and a short bio on a
separate page.

*Please include the appropriate extra postage inside your envelope if you want your work returned.

Maximum 3 works per person.

Deadline: March 2, 2012

Work will be exhibited at the March 8, 2012 exhibit in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and will join the Love Letters Collection for future and online exhibitions (unless you indicate otherwise)

Love Letters at Women's Worlds Global Feminist Conference, July, 2011

It was such an honour to share the stories and experience of Love Letters with this global community on the grounds of the University of Ottawa! Many more letters, including the first multi-lingual additions to the show, appeared during the conference. Radical knitting was also a new and welcome contribution!

Have you Heard?

I am very pleased to announce that Love Letters is going to be part of Women's Worlds 2011. I am very excited to share all of the beautiful, provocative images that have been submitted at this conference in Ottawa, July 3-7, 2011, and to the new works that will be joining the show in the process.

As I begin preparing for another exhibition of Love Letters, make sure you prepare some mail art for the show! I am always looking for new people and places to share the call for submissions with, so please don't hesitate to email me if you have some brilliant ideas about who should know about Love Letters who doesn't already. The official call will start being disseminated in April.

Love Letters Toronto 2010

There are some great images I have the pleasure of sharing thanks to the brilliant work of photographer Robert J. Brodey. Thanks to Love Letters participant Anne Mandlsohn for bringing him to the show and for sharing these photographs with me. This exhibition was made possible with the support of WIA Projects and their brilliant symposium, Performing Feminist Culture, their great team who were in touch with me leading up to the show (Pam, Stephanie, Maggie, et al.) and the very accommodating staff at XPACE Cultural Centre.

In the coming weeks I'll post the exciting news about future exhibitions, and how Women's Studies programs and Love Letter-ers are finding creative ways to be involved in the project.

WIA projects' Symposium Approaches!

Tomorrow I will be spending the day installing Love Letters at XPACE Cultural Centre in Toronto (58 Ossington Avenue), and the exhibition will be on display until Saturday, November 6th. I am so excited to be part of this Symposium, and share the great letters that have been arriving in my mailbox in the past few weeks.

Please come celebrate with me at XPACE on Friday, November 5th from 5-8pm. On top of some fantastic mail art, there will be a performance by Leena Raudvee and Erika DeFreitas at 6:30, so don't miss it!

Here's the facebook invite for the party. Hope you can make it!
